Coronation Street spoilers follow from Wednesday’s episode (11 February), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.

Coronation Street airs a key moment in Will Driscoll’s grooming storyline tonight, as he challenges Megan Walsh over her scheming against Sam Blakeman. Is this the first sign that Will could start to see Megan’s behaviour in a different light?

Megan is currently on a mission to make Sam’s life a misery, after he uncovered evidence of her inappropriate interest in teenage boys. After threatening Sam in secret, Megan has since upped the ante by playing cruel mind games with him regarding his schoolwork.

Wednesday’s episode sees Megan twist the knife further, taunting Sam at school as she suggests that his skills might be slipping. Coming just a day after Sam was wrongly accused of not handing in his coursework, the jibes leave him questioning himself.

Back home at the Rovers Return later, Will appears to be feeling guilty over the impact that his and Megan’s secret is having on Sam.

“He seemed stressed,” Will reveals, after seeing Sam earlier. “He was in the classroom at break today and he was revising like his life depended on it.

“If he snaps, he could blow everything. You should go easy on him. He just wants to keep his distance.”

Sticking to her guns, Megan replies: “Now I can remind him of the fact that his schoolwork’s dipped – and he refused my help. He won’t come back at me – he’s a good kid. He’s clever as well – clever enough to know not to make an enemy of me…”

With Will still visibly uncomfortable, are Megan’s cruel tactics starting to get too close to home? We know there’s still a while to go with this storyline, but it’s possible that manipulative moments like these could start to worry Will over time.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio York, Beth Nixon – who plays Megan – revealed that Will’s changing perceptions are going to form a key part of the grooming story’s future.

“I have to do it justice to serve the people who have been through it,” she explained.

“There’s been a rise in cases, and a few in Manchester, so you just have to try and handle it with as much care as you possibly can.”

Nixon added that, as the plotline develops, Will “comes to realise he is a victim [and that] it’s not love and she will get her comeuppance”.

Coronation Street has worked on Will and Megan’s grooming storyline with support from Barnardo’s. Support and information is available via the charity’s website.
