Coronation Street has aired a setback in Kevin Webster and Ronnie Bailey’s plan to bring Carl to justice over the Corriedale crash and set Debbie free.

In tonight’s (19 February) episode, Ronnie and Kevin used the master key to get into Carl’s hotel room. Carl insisted they’d been harassing him and that he had no intention to confess, adding that Debbie would be out “soon”.

Kevin and Ronnie wouldn’t let go. The duo frogmarched Carl to the police station, where he was meant to come clean about being the one behind the wheel the night of the car accident.

At the station, Carl announced to an annoyed Kit Green that he was there to report Ronnie and Kevin for assault, backing it up with a bruised face.

For his part, Kevin said it was “a citizen’s arrest”, explaining that Carl had been withholding evidence from that fateful night.

“He was driving the car that night,” Kevin said, with Kit suggesting the trio take a seat so they could all be interviewed individually.

Later on, Kit informed Ronnie and Kevin that his boss wouldn’t take Carl’s allegations of assault into consideration as it was a case of “his words against” theirs.

“She also has no interest in reopening Debbie’s case either,” Kit added, telling Kevin and Ronnie they needed to be “smart” if they wanted to incriminate Carl.

“He’s right about one thing,” Ronnie said after Kit left. “We need to be smarter. I’m not dropping it.”

“Good,” Kevin replied. “Neither am I.”

As Debbie’s fate depends on whether Kevin and Ronnie could find evidence against Carl, the latter decided to “play dirty” to “get everything”, as he revealed to Jodie Ramsey after the two slept together.

In the final scenes, a guard told Debbie that her brother booked a visit. While she was expecting her visitor would be Kevin, she was shocked to learn it was Carl instead – who fans know is actually Debbie’s secret son.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
