Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street’s Debbie Webster leaves her family worrying next week as her dementia symptoms continue to worsen behind bars. A preview clip for Thursday’s episode (2 April) sees Debbie getting a visit from Kevin and Jack and, while the pair are optimistic about her appeal, her behaviour unnerves them.

Spoilers for next week have already shown that Debbie’s worsening condition will lead to some big problems for her in prison, as former neighbour Lou Michaelis steps in to help her.

Debbie becomes disorientated at the start of the week and later she angrily accuses one of the prison officers of stealing her journal.

Knowing that a fight with a guard could harm her appeal, Lou steps in and picks a fight with one of the other prisoners, to distract from Debbie’s outburst.

A new clip from Thursday’s episode shows Debbie later in the week being visited by Kevin and Jack.

Debbie asks them about Carl but Kevin dodges the question as she reveals she’s been knitting a jumper for her son.

Kevin then says that Adam Barlow is feeling optimistic about her appeal and she could be home very soon.

But Debbie’s hopes aren’t as high, as she shares how she’s settling into prison life by taking woodworking classes.

As the three chat, Debbie struggles to open a drink carton, with Jack eventually helping her.

But Debbie’s behaviour unnerves Kevin and Jack, who think it’s a sign of her decline.

Sue Devaney, who plays Debbie, previously spoke about playing the character while she’s in prison and getting to explore a more stripped back version of her.

“It’s interesting to play somebody that, the whole front, the makeup, the way that they look, the what they drive, who they marry, everything has to be on show,” Devaney explained.

“So when you strip all that back… It’s interesting to play Debbie when it’s all stripped back. Who is she?”

Explaining Debbie’s new look, the actress continued: “I go into the dressing room, and there’s not a lot of makeup.

“So, I just give myself some mascara, scruff my hair up a bit. I have a really cheap lipstick ’cause you can buy makeup in prison. But it’s not the expensive Chanel that Debbie has. It’s cheap.

“She’ll have a little cheap lipstick and she’ll have a little cheap bottle of perfume so I’ll make sure that I don’t put my perfume on when I’m in prison. And the nails are off. No nails.”

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
