Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Sue Devaney has addressed the shocking prospect that Carl Webster could be killed off this month.

Carl’s days in Weatherfield may be numbered, as he’s one of five possible victims in the grisly events airing on 23 April. Fans have been speculating since Corrie’s recent flashforward scenes, which saw Betsy Swain being questioned by police after finding a body on Carla and Lisa’s wedding day.

Sue’s character Debbie Webster is still hoping to build bridges with her estranged son when she’s released from prison next week, but time could be running out for them.

In an exclusive new chat with Inside Soap, Sue spoke about the possibility that Debbie’s husband Ronnie Bailey could be responsible for Carl’s death.

“Poor Ronnie – he just wants Debbie to have a lovely time during whatever time they have left, so goes along with anything she wants,” Sue explained. “Sometimes, I do think she takes him for granted, though.

“As for murder? Well, we do know Ronnie is a bit of a gangster, don’t we? So who knows?”

On the alternative scenario – Carl sticking around to redeem himself – Sue added: “The fact that Carl’s such a bad’un makes it very interesting, doesn’t it? If you cast your mind back, when Debbie first came back to the show, she was plotting to knock down Coronation Street and build apartments.

“There has been a ruthless side to Debbie, so she does see herself in Carl. I do hope he can redeem himself in some way. Well, that’s if he’s not dead, of course!”

Jonathan Howard, who plays Carl, recently teased a grisly turn of events for his character when he appeared live on ITV’s This Morning wearing visible injury make-up. He hadn’t managed to wipe off his “black eye” before going on air, sparking speculation that one of his enemies is about to strike.

Jodie Ramsey, Maggie Driscoll, Megan Walsh and Theo Silverton are the other four characters who’ve been named as possible casualties.
