Emmerdale has cast Death in Paradise actor Chelsea Edge as a new police officer who will investigate the death of Dr Caitlin Todd.
In upcoming scenes, Edge will be introduced to the ITV soap as DS Ramsden, the main detective investigating the crime.
Ramsden appears for the first time in Tuesday’s episode, arresting Charity and Sarah for murder as she investigates the possibility of foul play in Dr Todd’s death. Sarah pushed Todd, but Charity is taking the blame and claiming she did it.

In the coming days and weeks, Charity and Sarah try to stick to this false version of events, but can Ramsden get to the bottom of it?
“Ramsden means business and she’ll stop at nothing to get to the truth,” said our Emmerdale insider. “It’s tough for Charity and Sarah to stick to their story under so much pressure, so it’s anyone’s guess how this messy situation will turn out…”
Edge will be best known to Digital Spy readers for playing the villainous Sophie Chambers in Death in Paradise. Introduced in the Season 12 Christmas Special, the character framed DI Neville Parker, portrayed by Ralf Little, for murder.
Emmerdale viewers know that during Sunday’s episode it was revealed that Sarah killed Dr Todd after witnessing a confrontation between Charity and the villain.
While Sarah heard details of Charity’s sexual assault, she failed to hear Todd taunting Charity about baby Leyla’s true parentage.
An angry Sarah shoved Dr Todd, who fell and hit her head on a table, dying from the injury. Charity and Sarah scrambled to get their stories straight in the aftermath.

Speaking about upcoming scenes, Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw hinted at more drama, telling The Mirror: “They are locked in a secret and that’s going to be long-lasting, and going forward, that’s going to affect their relationship.”
She added: “Obviously, there’s still the baby secret to come out at some point. It’s going to, it’s got to happen at some point.
“And how that will affect the story with regards to the murder and Todd, you’ll have to wait and see.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
