EastEnders and The Bill star Cheryl Hall has died at the age of 76, her former partner Robin Askwith has confirmed on social media. Askwith, a Coronation Street star himself, shared a photo of the duo from back in the day on X (formerly Twitter) alongside a sweet message.
“What a force of nature she was… A really innovative working class charismatic actress coming out of the late 60s. Brave in every way,” he wrote.

“And now I have the sad news she has passed away… I am devastated…she was my beginning… RIP Cheryl Hall.”
Between 1984 and 1988, Hall played the recurring character Sadie in 12 episodes of The Bill. Also in 1988, she played a character called Christine in EastEnders. She returned to The Bill to play a one-off character called Pauline in 2007.
Most notably, Hall was also the star of Citizen Smith, a sitcom from Only Fools and Horses creator John Sullivan. She played the girlfriend of main character Wolfie, played by her then-real-life husband Robert Lindsay.
She also played Kathleen, the love interest of David Jason’s character Shorty in the sitcom Lucky Feller.
Hall made one-off appearances in several classic shows, including Z-Cars, On the Buses, London’s Burning, Inspector Morse, Grange Hill, Casualty, Waking the Dead, and Doctor Who.

She reportedly got down to the final three actors in the running to play Jo Grant, the companion to Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor. In the end, she appeared alongside Pertwee and Katy Manning as Jo in the serial ‘Carnival of Monsters’, which was broadcast over four parts in early 1973.
Doctor Who documentary director Chris Chapman reminisced on X about interviewing her for a doc about the serial. He called her “so much fun – immediately likeable and engaging” adding, “RIP”.
