Healthy eating venture Tossed is shutting its doors after nine months of bringing freshly made-to-order salads, wraps and power bowls to Nottingham city centre.

No reason has been given for the closure. A sign in the window of the unit in Albert Street announced that Friday, August 21, was the final day and thanked customers for their support.

The shop, where customers could eat in, order a takeaway or have it delivered, was opened in November 2025 by brother and sister Martin and Tara Zaman. It was the first branch of Tossed to open outside London, and they were the first franchisees.

Those seeking a healthier fast food alternative hailed its arrival as a refreshing change from the proliferation of burger restaurants and fried chicken spots that have sprung up across the city.

Most of the reviews were positive. Customers praised the quality of the fresh ingredients, macro information and ease of ordering via digital kiosks.

A five-star comment left on Google just two days ago said: “Really good and quick service. Lovely healthy food at a really good price.”

The biggest gripe for some, though, was the cost. A customer, who paid £18 for a customised salad, said: “The containers are far too small for what they are charging. Not only that, but they were barely half full. I couldn’t believe the puny portions.

“The hummus was maybe half a tablespoon, the pickled veg was two slices of carrot and two slices of cucumber, and there were at most four chopped olives. It was more like something you might pick up as part of a meal deal as a last resort, not an £18 salad!”

Another said: “The quantity wasn’t good enough for £15+ price tag.”

As well as signature dishes such as Korean kimchi chicken power bowl for £8.99 and avocado Caesar salad priced £10.99, customers could design their own from scratch with options for anyone who was vegetarian, vegan, keto, gluten-free, or lactose-intolerant

Tossed prided itself on juices squeezed fresh every morning, combining vibrant colours and flavours, as well as smoothies and protein shakes, such as the best-selling peanut butter flavour.
