Coronation Street’s Kit Green begins his groundbreaking new storyline next week which will see the police officer diagnosed with breast cancer.
In a preview clip from Monday’s (31 August) episode, Kit will find out that breast cancer runs in his family, following his great-aunt Celeste Butterfield’s death.

Celeste, who had terminal cancer, had been staying at the Chariot Square hotel after enlisting Todd Grimshaw to plan her funeral.
Her niece Bernie Winter-Alahan had refused to see her due to a family rift between Celeste and her twin, Bernie’s mother.
On Sunday’s (30 August) episode, Celeste passed away, with Gemma being the only member of the family who had been to visit her.
In scenes to air on Monday, Gemma corners Kit in Roy’s and tells him Celeste has died from breast cancer.

While Kit doesn’t seem too concerned, Gemma then tells him that breast cancer runs in their family. Kit looks shocked at the news, then immediately tells Gemma he has to leave.
Spoilers for upcoming episodes have revealed Kit has been seeking help off camera over symptoms he’s been experiencing, and Gemma’s news leaves him feeling more concerned.
Kit will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the coming weeks, with the soap working with Macmillan Cancer Support and Breast Cancer Now to tell the important story.
Speaking about what’s coming for his character Jacob Roberts, who plays Kit, said: “I genuinely didn’t know that men could get breast cancer. I felt, to make it authentic, that Kit shouldn’t know that men can get breast cancer either.”

“Speaking to charities and male survivors has been really insightful,” Roberts continued. “Lots of men don’t know they can get this, and for Kit, it’s that utter disbelief of ‘how can this be?’ – not only for his age, but [also] ‘how can I have this as a bloke, and who else in the family could be affected?'”
Corrie producer Kate Brooks added of the storyline: “This diagnosis absolutely shakes the foundations of Kit’s life, as he struggles to digest what this means not only for him but also for his family and loved ones.”
“Kit’s a complex character, and he struggles as he navigates this new world he’s been thrust into. His vulnerabilities become all too apparent as he wrestles with what this means to his sense of identity,” she added.
“Whilst male breast cancer is rare, it’s important that we show it can happen to anyone. We must normalise conversations around this to encourage people to consult their GP at the earliest opportunity if any changes arise.”
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
