EastEnders stars have teased when Sharon Watts will make her dramatic return to the Square – and it’s soon.

Letitia Dean has been absent from Walford since April, but she’s due to reprise the role of Sharon, as a recent trailer confirmed.

Speaking tonight at the National Television Awards (NTAs), stars Alice Haig, Max Murray and Alex Walkinshaw discussed what’s coming next in the series, and said the wait is almost over for Sharon’s big comeback.

“You haven’t got long to wait, you’ll see her in a couple of weeks,” Haig told Digital Spy.

The trio also discussed Joel Marshall’s misogyny storyline, addressing the audience’s reactions to the newest developments.

Murray, who plays Joel said he noticed “a pretty positive response from the audience” despite his character not being “the most likeable”.

“The character isn’t meant to be liked,” he continued. “It’s very challenging, but equally I’ve got the best support I can possibly have with these two, and the whole team,” he added.

Asked about what direction the storyline will take next, the trio agreed things are going to get pretty wild. “Explosive,” Walkinshaw said, while Haig chimed in: “Very, very dark.”

EastEnders won big at tonight’s NTAs, bringing the award for Best Serial Drama back to Walford. The London-set soap regained the title after losing to Emmerdale last year.

Accepting the award, Patrick Trueman star Rudolph Walker said: “Let me especially thank the viewers for voting.”

The actor celebrated the team bringing EastEnders to life, including the cast and crew behind the camera, as “the happiest family on television”.

The 2025 NTAs are available to stream on ITVX.

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
