Coronation Street newbies Eva Price and her partner Ben Driscoll’s mum Maggie certainly don’t get along, but could a change for the duo be on the horizon?

Catherine Tydesley returned to the show as Eva last month alongside Ben as the Rovers Return’s latest landlady.

Ben dropped the bombshell on Eva upon her return that they would be taking over the beloved pub; however, there was more to the deal than met the eye.

Soon after, interfering mother-in-law Maggie arrived on the scene, revealing that she had given money to Ben to purchase the pub, and would therefore be in Walford to help with the general running of the establishment.

It’s clear from the get-go that Maggie doesn’t approve of her son’s relationship with Eva, but there could be a turning point on the horizon for the pair.

Upcoming scenes in the ITV soap will see Eva and Maggie head out for a pamper session – could relations thaw after they indulge in a little TLC?

An insider for the show told Digital Spy: “It’s very crowded behind the bar at the Rovers at the moment, and Eva is growing tired of Maggie’s sniping.

“While the pair both love Ben, they clearly don’t see eye to eye – but could a day at the spa together finally end Eva and Maggie’s spat?”

Speaking about her onscreen feud with Maggie, Eva actor Catherine told Digital Spy: “I’ve watched a lot of what Pauline’s [McLynn] done in the past. When I’m watching what she’s doing on set, sometimes I’ll just watch the monitor, and I know I am seeing a Corrie icon. From the minute she came on set, she was just brilliant.

“The way the writers have structured things for our characters – it’s hilarious, it’s constant jibes. But there’s also a moment that we did not so long ago where Eva says: ‘If I wasn’t with Ben and I’d just met Maggie, I think we’d be mates’. There are a lot of similarities between them.

“They both love the family, they’re both striving for the same thing, it’s just that now and again they come to blows. But that’s great fun to play.”

On whether Eva feels threatened by Maggie, Catherine continued: “It’s an interesting one. Early doors, I wouldn’t say that Eva is scared of Maggie, she’s more irritated by her. But as time goes on, Eva does start to see this side to Maggie that’s like: ‘Wow, okay, I’ve got your number’. I think that element develops where she goes: ‘Yeah, I am a little bit scared of her now and intimidated’.”

There is reason for Eva to possibly be scared of Maggie, as it is set to be revealed that she previously killed someone in a special flashback episode.

Heartache is also on the horizon for Ben’s son Will Driscoll, with the 15-year-old being groomed by his former athletics coach, Megan.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
