Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has made a surprising revelation about rival ITV soap Emmerdale. The two shows will soon collide for a special crossover, titled Corriedale, which will air on 5 January 2026.

The hour-long event will see beloved characters from Weatherfield and the Dales dramatically thrown together, amid a devastating crash. Though the episode will be self-contained, a huge stunt promises lasting consequences for both communities.

Among those involved in the drama are David Platt (played by Shepherd) and his pregnant wife Shona, who appear to be caught in the wreckage of a fiery collision. The trailer sees them helped by Emmerdale’s Jacob Gallagher and Charity Dingle.

Speaking about the “great” scene, Shepherd revealed that he learnt a lot from the Emmerdale team while filming and claimed that their stunts have “always” outmatched Corrie’s

“I did a little run through the flames. Yeah, it’s great. I think if there’s any stunts – and listen, all the years that we’ve watched Emmerdale stunts, they’ve always gone down in history as being better than ours!” he told Digital Spy and other media.

“So it was nice to finally work with them, so that they could show us exactly how to do it! I’ve always thought their stunts are better than ours, but no, it was good.”

“I mean, it’s lots of car crashes, and that was right in the beginning of the ep, wasn’t it? So you were right there straight away, seeing all these cars like collide and everything. I think it looked great,” he added.

“We’re still taking it all in, I suppose, because obviously it’s the first time we’ve seen it, so I only saw little bits when we were actually filming it on the night. But of course, we weren’t there for any of the stunts, because it was just the stunt drivers and everything, no cast were involved.”

While the episode has teased death, destruction and lasting trauma for the residents of both soaps, Shepherd shared that the cast had a great time behind the scenes.

“Oh yeah, there’s fire and everything and we’re all there just having a laugh, and we’ve got Haribo and sweets and stuff and chocolate, so they just feed us and we were okay, weren’t we? We were all having a laugh, and it was dry, it didn’t rain, so yeah. [Director] Duncan [Foster] knew what he was doing, so no one was worried!”

The groundbreaking crossover was first announced back in May, as a special celebration of the genre. Since then, fans of both soaps have been eager to uncover details about the hugely anticipated event.

“I suppose there’s nothing that we can say, is there? So I suppose everything’s just been, ‘oh, yeah, watch it. It’s gonna be good! See what happens,'” explained the actor. “‘Can you tell us anything?’ ‘No, just that we’re all there!'”

Corriedale airs on Monday 5 January at 8pm on ITV1 and will stream on ITVX.
