Coronation Street spoilers follow for the latest episode on ITVX and YouTube streaming, which hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet. This article discusses subject matter such as domestic abuse and coercive control.
Coronation Street’s dark Todd Grimshaw and Theo Silverton storyline has taken another sinister twist in the latest episode, as Todd tried to make everything seem bright and rosy in public with a proposal, but the manipulation continued behind closed doors.
The episode started with Theo suggesting the couple make some New Year’s resolutions, specifically that Todd try harder to show him some affection in public, and berated Todd for saying that he thought Theo wasn’t a fan of that.
He then found a key in Todd’s trouser pocket, and when Todd said it was for Summer Spellman, he played the card of ‘needing trust’ in the relationship again.
Over in the Rovers, a worried Billy Mayhew asked Alya Nazir about Yasmeen Metcalfe’s own coercive control ordeal at the hands of Geoff. She said it often takes longer for the abused person to realise the situation they are in than their loved ones, but their loved ones pointing it out sometimes leads to more isolation.

At the New Year’s Eve gathering in the night time, Billy shared his concerns with Todd, but got shut down.
To prove how rock solid the couple were, Todd got down on one knee and proposed to Theo shortly after the latter got to the pub (as Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s ‘The Power of Love’ played).
After a brief silence, Theo said “‘course I will” and offered everyone a round, much to the joy of everyone in there.
However, the happiness was short-lived for Todd.

Theo pulled Todd aside while everyone else was singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ and said that he overheard Billy and Alya talking about abusive relationships, accusing Todd of talking to them about it.
After Todd insisted he didn’t, Theo then had a go at him over the proposal before walking away and leaving him devastated yet again (something Billy noticed).
“Getting down on one knee in front of everyone. You embarrassed yourself, and embarrassed me,” he snarled. “Can’t help it, can ya? Everything has to be about you, doesn’t it? You’re pathetic.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
