Quiz, the must-watch drama starring Mark Bonnar and Michael Sheen, has landed a new streaming home in the UK. With a stacked cast and an incredible real-life story, this could be a breezy binge-watch now it’s on Netflix.

The three-part series is based on James Graham’s 2017 stage play of the same name, with the drama focusing on the real-life story of Charles Ingram (Matthew Macfadyen) and his stint on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?.

A former major in the British Army, Ingram took part in the ITV quiz show in 2001, and managed to win the top prize as he answered 15 questions correctly. Soon, however, there were accusations of cheating – but was he guilty?

Written by Graham and directed by Stephen Frears, Quiz originally aired on ITV in April 2020, but it now has another streaming home in addition to ITVX after being made available on Netflix.

The drama boasts a stacked cast, with Sheen starring as quiz show host Chris Tarrant and Bonnar portraying producer Paul Smith. Below the line, the supporting cast includes Sian Clifford, Helen McCrory and Aisling Bea.

Though not widely reviewed by critics, all three reviews for the series on Rotten Tomatoes are designated as positive, with Loud and Clear Reviews calling the drama “wonderfully entertaining”.

“A stunning exercise in ambiguity that never stops being gripping, teasing us with its reminder that, sometimes, there is no final answer,” wrote A Good Movie to Watch, while Common Sense Media described its portrayal of real events as “unsentimental”.

On IMDb, Quiz currently has an impressive average user rating of 7.3 out of 10 from 8500 reviews, with one viewer writing: “It engages throughout with a mostly tight story, mostly good cast and what we all love: a bit of a mystery.”

“Top notch acting, the cast do a great job, but the standout is definitely Michael Sheen, who gives a quite alarmingly accurate performance as Chris Tarrant, the mannerisms, voice and reactions are first rate,” wrote another fan.

A third viewer was also full of praise, writing: “This was quite well done. They made a bit of a joke of it, it was a little slapstick but I was keen on something light-hearted after all the crime shows I usually watch.”

Quiz is streaming now on ITVX and Netflix.
