Omega-3 is a nutrient that many of us believe we are getting enough of, yet research indicates otherwise. A recent study published in November 2025 revealed that more than three-quarters of the global population aren’t ingesting enough omega-3 fatty acids, despite their essential roles in joint health, inflammation management, and daily mobility.

This deficiency often goes unnoticed, mainly because it’s difficult to acquire sufficient omega-3 just from eating a healthy diet alone. But there is one supplement that’s gaining popularity for tackling this problem – Dr Vegan’s Omega 3.

For a one-off purchase, a pouch costs ÂŁ21.99, but the best value can be found with the subscription option, where customers can receive three pouches every 90 days for ÂŁ53.09, reduced from ÂŁ65.97 – or approximately 59p per day. Better still, the brand is currently offering an additional 15% off with the code ‘VOM3’, bringing the single purchase down to ÂŁ18.70 and the 90-day subscription to ÂŁ45.13.

Unlike conventional fish oil supplements, the brand highlights that Vegan omega-3 is sourced from algae – a natural foundation of the omega-3 chain. This plant-based alternative not only delivers the same essential nutrients but also sidesteps the environmental impact of industrial fishing.

After all, fish don’t produce omega-3 themselves – they acquire it from the algae they eat. By sourcing omega-3 directly from algae, supplements like this prevent trawling and seabed destruction whilst providing a purer, more refined oil.

Dr Vegan’s formula contains 1,000mg of algae oil per serving, offering an optimal ratio of 300mg DHA and 150mg EPA, the two fatty acids most closely linked with joint comfort, brain health, heart function and vision, according to the brand, reports the Express, reports the Express.

Since it’s algae-derived, there’s no fishy smell or aftertaste, and it avoids the pollutants and toxins that can occasionally be found in fish oils. It’s also naturally lower in saturated fats compared to animal-sourced omega-3 alternatives, which is significant because higher saturated fat intake is associated with raised cholesterol levels.

According to Dr Vegan, omega-3 is needed in every cell of the body and supports skin health, hormone balance, cognitive function and inflammation management. Dr Vegan’s Omega 3 has gained recognition from BBC Good Food as a ‘Highly Recommended’ supplement and maintains an ‘Excellent’ rating on Trustpilot, with over 6,000 customer reviews.

An alternative option, however, is the Essential Omega-3 for ÂŁ17.99, reduced from ÂŁ23.49, from MyProtein for 250 soft gels. This provides a range of benefits, including being an essential fatty acid, and is described as cost effective and convenient.

Another alternative is the Solgar Triple Strength Omega-3 100 Softgel Capsules from Holland and Barrett, available for ÂŁ62.48. This is promoted as a ‘concentrated omega3 supplement providing Solgar’s Triple Strength combination of EPA and DHA to support heart health’.

On Trustpilot, shoppers have left many favourable reviews for the Dr Vegan supplements. One reviewer, Mike Harrison, remarked: “It’s good for my brain health. The subscription service means I don’t run out. Price is competitive. One teensy moan is that the capsules are slightly tacky, and tend to stick to my pill case. But if you don’t use a pill case, that won’t bother you!”

Another, Mandy Stewart added: “Really helps me and my joints, as I love to regularly work out at the gym. At 54 I’ve really noticed the difference since taking them.”

One shopper removed a star and noted: “High quality supplements, one of the few sellers that offer different types of omega-3s together and produced from clean, tank-grown algae. I didn’t know there was a hierarchy of omega-3 supplements, but once I learned better, I found that this product offered the best quality/price ratio. Knocked off one star for communication – if a supplement sells out, it’s unclear when the stock will be replenished.”

A customer called Ellie revealed: “I have now been on this product for two years, and I can’t be without it. Highly recommend for anyone who suffers from stiff and painful joints. No fishy taste, and brilliant benefits. I have always found cod liver oil beneficial to my health, but I hated what it was and where it came from. In the past, I have tried other omega-3 substitutes that have never come close or have given me an unhappy tum.

“This all changed when I tried Dr Vegan’s Vegan Omega 3! I have been using this product for a month and can’t believe the positive difference in my joints, hair, and skin. It really has taken away my painful and stiff joints, with the added positivity of affecting my sleep in a great way. I have now subscribed, so I never run out!”
