EastEnders spoilers follow for Monday’s episode (23 February), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.

EastEnders has explained the latest twist about Ben Mitchell, as his separated husband Callum Highway finds himself trapped in a dangerous situation. Last week, Callum and his new partner Johnny Carter were shocked when they were approached by a man who had news about Ben.

He explained that Ben was facing another ten years in prison for another charge, but Callum could stop this by retrieving a USB stick from a mysterious address.

Callum was conflicted about what to do in today’s episode, but Johnny felt frustrated and insisted that he doesn’t go through with this crime.

Linda spotted them arguing in the café so called round to see Callum, worried about her son. Callum explained the situation he was in but made it clear that he wouldn’t do it and has moved on from Ben.

Callum thought it right that Kathy knew the truth about her son, and she was heartbroken to learn that Ben could be spending more years behind bars.

While Callum insisted that he wouldn’t be helping, Kathy and Ian declared that they were going to break into the house themselves to save Ben – so he felt he had no choice but to go with them.

Meanwhile, Linda bumped into Tim and expressed her annoyance that he would be pulling his investment from Johnny’s business if Callum didn’t illegally dig up some dirt on a competitor.

Tim discreetly explained that he had set up a test to prove if Callum is truly the right man for Johnny, or if his loyalty still lies with Ben.

Callum, Kathy and Ian drove to the address, and Kathy stayed in the car while Callum and Ian broke in. They began hunting for the USB stick, but when Callum spotted a webcam recording him, he realised had been set up and they made a quick getaway.

Johnny remained in the dark about Callum’s plans, having been assured by his partner that he had declined the dangerous task.

When Callum headed to the pub, Tim revealed that he had faked the whole business with Ben, and that he now had CCTV of him breaking into his house.

“Maybe your friends at the police don’t have to know about this,” Tim said, “if you’re willing to get me the information I need.”

With Johnny devastated, will Callum break the law again to save his own skin?

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
