Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Jonathan Howard appeared live on This Morning today to tease the show’s mysterious death storyline – and a potential clue wasn’t exactly hard to spot. The actor’s villainous alter ego Carl Webster is one of five characters who could be killed off on 23 April – the day of Carla Connor and Lisa Swain’s wedding.

In today’s episode of This Morning, updates on the storyline came thick and fast. Soaps expert Sharon Marshall reported live from the Coronation Street set in Trafford, revealing that the romantic ceremony is now being filmed.

“I can tell you they are filming the Swarla wedding today,” Sharon told show hosts Ben Shephard and Angela Scanlon. “And it is a marriage as well – it’s going to be a first in soap history, two girls getting married without any calamities on the way.”

This seems to suggest that Carla and Lisa will be out of harm’s way on the day itself – as indicated by Corrie’s recent flashforward scene, where Betsy Swain spoke to the police about how well the ceremony had gone.

Shortly afterwards, Sharon sat down for a chat with Jonathan on the Rovers Return set. The show was quickly forced to address the elephant in the room – Jonathan was wearing obvious injury make-up and hadn’t managed to wipe his “black eye” away in time for his interview.

“You might have come in inadvertently with a little spoiler clue,” Sharon quipped. “You were frantically wiping your face with a wet wipe!”

“Yes, the make-up team did a great job this morning – completely covering me in blood because Carl’s going to get into some trouble,” Jonathan teased.

“[He’s in] a few fights, yeah. Things are going to get pretty bad for Carl.”

Jonathan was then asked about the recent This Morning viewer poll, where 20% of voters predicted that Carl will be the character killed off on the wedding day.

“I mean, I’m just going around disrupting everyone,” Jonathan replied, reflecting on his character’s list of misdeeds. “I’m stealing off my mum, I’ve already stole my brother’s wife, I’ve done a hit and run with Tyrone, I’ve got teenagers stealing cars for me. I’m not the nicest on the Street at the moment.”

He added: “I’ve had a really good time here. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.”

When Sharon pointed out that Jonathan was notably using the past tense, he would only say: “We’re going to see what happens in the future…”
