It’s safe to say sneakers are having a moment in 2025. Sure, they technically have always been wardrobe staples, but this year in particular, we’ve seen a boom of all sorts of styles ranging from retro to suede to ballet to multi-colored. Now, just in time for fall, yet another silhouette is entering the fashion ring—and ding, ding, ding!—it’s very fittingly boxing shoes.

Taking its name after the footwear normally worn during a match, the high-top-sneakers-meets-boots hybrid first made its appearance during fashion week spring/summer 2025. Stella McCartney was among the many designers who sent versions of the sporty shoe down the runway. She showcased calf-length styles with Bermuda shorts (another major trend) and skirts. Meanwhile, Dior took the trend to a new extreme, pairing knee-high boxing shoes with short-length bottoms. Chloé and Loewe, on the other hand, each introduced more subtle iterations that hit just above the ankles.

Slowly but surely, the fashion set has begun experimenting with the divisive footwear—and it’s already becoming a trendy sleeper hit on the streets. So how does one style them? Easy. Play with proportions as Stella McCartney and Dior did by pairing a shorter-length skirt or shorts with the high-top sneakers in order for them to have a moment.
