Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has confirmed there will be a week of five special episodes as the ITV soap’s murder-mystery storyline comes into focus, with one villainous Weatherfield resident set to meet their end.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the soap would be introducing a twist for Carla Connor and Lisa Swain’s wedding day, with the presence of a dead body set to send shockwaves through the cobbles.

In a flashforward scene, it was revealed that Lisa’s daughter, Betsy, would be the one to discover the body, though it wasn’t immediately revealed who had died. Eventually, the list of potential victims was whittled down to five characters.

Megan Walsh, Jodie Ramsey, Carl Webster, Theo Silverton and Maggie Driscoll were the figures who could face their demise, and it has now been confirmed that all will be revealed in the week commencing Monday 27 April.

The aptly-titled “Murder Week” will see the same day revisited across the five instalments, with each part focusing on one of the aforementioned characters. At the end of proceedings, Betsy will discover a body, and the hunt for the killer will begin.

We also have a new teaser clip to preview the action, with the five characters being dressed in funeral attire as they walk through Weatherfield. They are greeted by funeral director George Shuttleworth and a hearse, with a wreath in the shape of a question mark.

“Since the reveal of the identities of the possible murder victims in February, each of them has turned more towards the dark side, giving many reasons why someone would want them dead,” reads the logline.

“But who will breathe their last on the night of Carla Connor and Lisa Swain’s wedding, and who will be left with blood on their hands?” it continues, with the press release also containing some new-look images.

Upon the announcement of the storyline in January, Corrie producer Kate Brooks said: “It’s our big thriller-esque story as we go into spring and early summer. It will involve an awful lot of the community.

“I don’t think I’ve ever told a story that involves quite as many character groups. There are so many twists and so many turns and it’s been a real challenge in some ways, because it is so complex and intricate, but it’s so exciting.”

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
