“There’s absolutely no way out for Charity,” warns our Dales source. “She thought her self-defence plan was watertight, but now her selfless lie has doomed her to prison. She’s resigned herself to a life sentence, with no hope of escape.”
Despite enlisting ex-copper Serena Sugden’s help to cleverly craft her cover story, Charity is now at the mercy of a judge as she awaits her fate.
Back in the village, guilty Sarah Sugden is shattered by the news that her gran has been charged with murder, unable to process how things have reached the point of tearing their family apart…
In her cell, Charity tries to get her head around the last few weeks and the fragile web of lies that led her here. Convinced there’s no way she’ll be let off these charges, Charity reaches out to a family member who recently made her a sincere promise.
“Charity begs Mack to carry out a very specific and surprising request,” explains our mole. “She asks him to retrieve a St. Christopher necklace and deliver it to Cain, as she knows that this symbol will alert him to her dire need for help. Right now, Cain’s the only one who might be able to make a difference.”

Viewers will remember that Charity showed Cain her loyalty during his cancer treatment, and hinted she may need him one day when she messed up.
Cain gifted her a St. Christopher necklace that once belonged to his dad Zak, telling her that whenever she needs him, she should hand it back and he’ll be there for her. And now the time has come…
“Cain immediately understands the gesture,” reveals our insider. “He heads straight to the prison to see Charity. Face-to-face, she reveals a shocking secret that leaves Cain reeling! But what has she told him?”

Whatever Charity admits, she hopes having Cain on her side will help her find a way to escape a terrifying future separated from her family. But will her honesty cost her Cain’s support – or will he be true to the promise he made all those months ago?
Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, recently told us: “At the moment, it’s looking quite grim for Charity! She’s taking that mantle for Sarah and she’s prepared to go down for the crime. She’ll take the blame now and see it as her penance and justice for all the lies she’s told.
“But the good thing about soap is that it’s ever-evolving – things can turn in a heartbeat!”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
