Carpetright, which was in the unit before Pure Gym moved into it, went into administration and was acquired by rival Tapi in July last year.Â
At the time of its collapse, the company had 273 stores across the UK, plus 19 concessions, and employed almost 1,900 people.Â
More than 200 stores and 1,600 jobs were lost.Â
Next to the store in Clacton, the branches in Harwich and Colchester were also shut.Â
Similar plans for a new gym at Harwich Gateway Retail Park were approved in November.Â
