EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has aired a heartbreaking cliffhanger for Harry Mitchell following a huge Teddy Mitchell update. This week, Okie threatened Kojo with a knife in his flat. After coming to Kojo’s defence, Harry and Okie ended up having a fight and Okie was fatally stabbed by Harry.

Following the accident, Harry went to hand himself in but his dad Teddy decided to step in and take the fall for his son. He put his fingerprints on the knife and was arrested for Okie’s murder.

In yesterday’s episode, after being arrested, Teddy phoned Nicola, telling her he was being charged for murder.

In tonight’s episode, Nicola broke the news to Barney and Harry that Teddy was being charged with Okie’s murder. With Barney oblivious to Harry’s involvement, Nicola tried to keep Harry calm while Barney broke down in tears.

Speaking in the hall, Nicola told Harry: “Your dad did what he had to do. And he would do it again in a heartbeat if it meant keeping you out of harm’s way.”

A confused Barney questioned what they were talking about so Nicola told him that Teddy had acted in self-defence.

Later, Junior Knight prepared to leave Walford for a life abroad. After finding a worried Kojo banging on Harry’s door, Junior was furious when Kojo told him their dad was planning to send him to Ghana.

Ignoring Kojo’s knocks, a worried looking Harry went on his phone and sent a text to a man named Glen, asking if he was around.

Meanwhile at the prison, Teddy told Nicola that he was going to plead guilty to protect Harry, leaving Nicola feeling horrified.

“There’s no easy way to tell you this. I told them I’m pleading guilty and I know what you’re going to say,” Teddy said to Nicola, who asked: “Are you out of your mind?”

Teddy explained to a tearful Nicola that he had no other choice, saying he couldn’t risk the case going to trial and that he was prepared to serve 15 years in prison to protect Harry.

Back at home, things took a turn for the worse when Nicola discovered that Harry had relapsed and taken drugs.

After finding him barely conscious on the sofa, Nicola phoned an ambulance, saying: “It’s my son, I think he’s overdosed.”

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
