In an exclusive interview with People, Oprah Winfrey spoke candidly about her weight loss journey on GLP-1 medication. Including how the medication unexpectedly curbed her desire to drink alcohol.

In the Tuesday, Dec. 30 cover story, Winfrey discussed her upcoming book “Enough: Your Health, Your Weight and What It’s Like to Be Free,” co-written by Dr. Ania M. Jastreboff.

Winfrey began taking GLP-1 medication in 2023, and she tells People that, “I feel more alive and more vibrant than I’ve ever been.”

Winfrey opened up about how the medication has completely changed her habits. Including her desire to drink alcohol.

“I was a big fan of tequila. I literally had 17 shots one night,” Winfrey said. “The fact that I no longer even have a desire for alcohol is pretty amazing.”

Winfrey expressed that her decision to start taking GLP-1 medication back in 2023 came from the realization that she was struggling with obesity and it was okay to accept help.

“I thought it was about discipline and willpower. But I stopped blaming myself,” Winfrey told People. “In spite of the shaming and blaming myself, I wouldn’t take nothing for the journey. Whatever was happening needed to happen to get me to this point. And I rejoice at feeling liberated from the struggle—because I had a real public struggle. And I am healthier now.”

“Enough: Your Health, Your Weight and What It’s Like to Be Free” will be out on Jan. 13 and is available to preorder now.
