A supernatural period drama with a stacked cast, including Eleanor Tomlinson and James Norton, has now landed on a new streaming platform in the UK.
Set in an alternate Victorian London, The Nevers follows the Touched, a group of individuals who manifest special abilities following a supernatural event.
The story hinges around widow Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a combative woman who runs an orphanage for people with powers, known as “turns” in the series.
Amalia is best friends with Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant inventor with the ability to spot electrical energy patterns. The cast also includes Norton as aristocratic club owner Hugo Swann and Tomlinson as struggling singer Mary Brighton.
Premiering on HBO in 2021, the series previously aired on Now and Sky Atlantic in the UK. From 1 February this year, The Nevers will stream on ITVX in the UK.

For the first time in the UK, all 12 episodes of the first and only season of The Nevers will be available to stream. The short-lived series was cancelled before it could air the remaining six episodes of its first season, consisting of 12 episodes in total. In 2023, Tubi aired the complete season for viewers based in the US.
Despite the cast and intriguing storylines, including a ‘mind-blowing’ twist turning the show on its head in episode six, The Nevers didn’t fully convince critics.
The series has a critics’ rating of 47% from 68 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, whereas audience members seemed to have enjoyed the steampunk setting and stories, giving it a more promising 83% on the Popcornmeter.

Donnelly, whose “wonderful” performance in The Nevers received acclaim (via The Globe and Mail), will next be seen in The Dark, a murder mystery for ITV.
Adapted from the novel From the Shadows by GR Halliday, the series sees hardened detective Monica Kennedy (Donnelly) investigate the murder of a young man whose body has been staged in a peculiar, eerie fashion.
The Nevers starts streaming on 1 February on ITVX in the UK.
