Matty and Kim arrive at the ED for their first shift on the day that is darkly named Black Wednesday. Keen to get started as soon as possible, Matty sets up a ‘firsts’ list in the staff room to track his progress.

While Dylan is forced to become Matty’s mentor, things don’t go well and Flynn steps in as his adviser for the day. Matty gets off to a flying start, making it clear that he intends to apply for the Clinical Fellowship soon, and impressing Flynn by treating a patient successfully.

Kim’s first day starts with an embarrassing mistake, when she assumes that her mentor Dr Nash is a man and is horrified when she then meets Stevie. As her shift gets underway, Kim impresses Stevie by correctly explaining the treatment for a patient.

But Stevie is annoyed when Kim later presses the emergency button for what is revealed to be a false alarm. Can Kim win round her frustrated mentor?

3. Dylan is spookedstevie, dylan, casualty

BBC

Dylan insists that he doesn’t want to act as a mentor to either of the two new doctors. He is later witness to a chat between Stevie and Flynn, who tease each other about which of their mentees will win the Clinical Fellowship.

However, Dylan is blindsided when he realises that Matty has the same surname as someone he went to university with. Is there a hidden connection between Dylan and Matty?

During a conversation with newbie Kim, Nicole reminisces about her ex-partner Ngozi and suggests that she isn’t here anymore.

BBC

At the end of the last boxset, Iain and Faith’s marriage looked all but over. The death of Iain’s mum, who was an alcoholic, made Iain think that he didn’t love Faith and was only with her to fix her – as an addict herself.

It appears that the situation sadly hasn’t changed, as Faith tells pal Stevie that Iain has now moved out. Is there any way back for the couple?

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission.
