Despite being billed as a limited series back in 2021, acclaimed thriller Mare of Easttown is one step closer to returning to our screens — and star Kate Winslet has given fans a possible production window.
Season one of the police series, which was labelled “exceptional” by Film Cred, stars Winslet as the eponymous detective, Marianne ‘Mare’ Sheehan.
The no-nonsense, hardened cop investigates a cold case right as the body of a teenage mum, Erin McMenamin (Cailee Spaeny), is found lifeless in the woods. As Mare digs deeper, she’s forced to confront her own demons.
Despite the series concluding its central mystery within season one, fans called for a continuation of Mare’s story.
Winslet originally ruled out the possibility of reprising the role of Mare, though it now seems that a new instalment could be happening, with the star saying there’s “a strong likelihood” of a second season airing in 2027.

Last year, she told Deadline that she and creator Brad Ingelsby were having “proper conversations” about a possible timeframe for a new Mare of Easttown.
“They were proper conversations around a timeframe when it could be possible,” she said. “And so I think we probably will do it, and that’s the first time I’ve felt that.”
Now, Winslet confirmed that fans will have to wait a few years before Mare could return to TV as “there’s a strong likelihood it would film sometime in 2027”.
Winslet can be seen in festive dramedy Goodbye June, a star-studded family story which also marks her directorial debut.
