House of Guinness spoilers follow.

It may have ended on a major cliffhanger, but there could be life for House of Guinness in the future. Though we have had no confirmation of a renewal order from Netflix, writer-creator Steven Knight is hopeful that a follow-up could come.

The series takes place in the aftermath of the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, who founded the famous brewery. Following his passing, the estate is handed to his four children, with the brand continuing to grow over the years.

Boasting a stacked cast including James Norton, Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge and Jack Gleeson, the period drama proved to be a success when it was released on Netflix in September, but there’s been no confirmation of a second season from the streamer.

Knight, who is known for his work on Peaky Blinders and Taboo, has expressed his hope for a follow-up though, with the screenwriter revealing to RadioTimes that a second season is in the works.

“First of all, the cast was so fantastic, and I’m pleased on behalf of them, because it’s sort of a generation of fantastic actors,” he began. “But to see the response was wonderful. I mean, across the globe. So [I’m] really pleased with that.”

“I was just gonna say, I was about to continue then, but I’m not. I can’t speak about that,” he replied when asked about a follow-up. Though it wasn’t official confirmation, Knight’s coyness surely indicates that the idea has at least been mooted.

The all-important greenlighting of a second season is surely high on the agenda for fans of the series, with the first saga ending on a major cliffhanger as Sean Rafferty (Norton) and Lady Olivia (Danielle Galligan) agreed to continue their relationship.

This came amid increasing pressure from Olivia’s husband Arthur (Boyle), who had forbade her from continuing their affair unless she was acceptant of the fact she’d be left financially destitute. Sean, meanwhile, would also lose his job with the family.

Despite their predicament, Sean and Olivia declared their love for each other and promised to find a way to maintain their affair while also not suffering at Arthur’s hands. If the second season is greenlit, this could be a big storyline.
