Next week, Coronation Street’s Betsy will attempt to bring Lisa and Carla back together. With Becky, whose manipulations caused their breakup, officially behind bars, a hopeful Betsy becomes determined to unite her mum with the love-of-her-life.

A storyline which will play out across multiple episodes, in Monday’s (19 January) instalment, Betsy speaks with Carla in Underworld, and assures her that she and her mum still love her, and that they could be a happy family again.

Likewise, when Wednesday’s (21 January) episode airs, fans will see Lisa extending an olive branch of her own, after Carla is handed a letter by Ryan, inviting her to have lunch at the Bistro with Lisa.

When she sits down with clients, however, Carla’s asked to put away her phone and switch it off, leaving her unable to contact Lisa.

Furious that Carla appears to have ghosted her, a drunken Lisa bursts into the hotel restaurant where Carla is dining with clients and berates her for standing her up at the Bistro.

Lisa and Carla may have a bumpy road ahead, but they are expected to share a lighter moment with Betsy in The Rovers during Thursday’s (22 January) episode. While it’s unknown if Carla forgives Lisa for believing Becky’s lies, Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks has spoken about their future.

“Well, Becky was an absolute obstacle thrown their way! Now they’ve dealt with Becky and her true colours have absolutely been revealed for all to see – and Lisa’s finally realised the extent of the manipulation and the lies that Becky’s told – we’ll see them starting to make their way back to each other,” she explained.

“Obviously, there’s a lot to get past, but they love each other and that love never faltered throughout at all. I think the love remains strong – it was the circumstances that got in the way.

Now that the ghost of Becky is finally being put to bed, they can move forward with their lives and they can look forward to their future together.”

Teasing what’s to come, Brooks added: “They will get the chance to finally be free from Becky and be free from the drama that surrounded that story and be happy and content with each other. So it’s going to be a romantic spring for Carla and Lisa, which will make many people smile, I imagine!”

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
