This week’s new box set drop on Channel 4 from Walter Presents is Arctic Circle. Described by the streaming service as a “gripping Finnish crime drama”, the series first aired back in Finland in 2018. It follows detective Nina Kautsalo as she “takes on dangerous cases that straddle the border between Russia and Finland”, according to the show’s logline.
Arctic Circle ran for four seasons, and all of them are now available on Channel 4. The central detective remains, taking on a different investigation each time – ranging from the death of a woman with a “deadly virus” to a “a carjacking gone wrong”, according to the season descriptions on the platform.
Iina Kuustonen stars as the main character, Nina Kautsalo, while the rest of the cast includes Pihla Viitala, Mikko Leppilampi, Venla Ronkainen, and Taneli Mäkelä.
Many viewers have praised the series on IMDb, with one saying the show has “some strange twists”, while also noting the “good acting, sympathetic characters and engaging storyline”.
“If you like Nordic noirs then you’ll love Arctic Circle,” said another fan, who also added that they thought the cinematography was “beautiful” and “the acting and plot well done”.

Channel 4
Someone else branded it “excellent”, stating that it was a “nice balance between drama and thriller”, while another user said the show was “very creative”. The beautiful scenery was praised numerous times, too.
Arctic Circle follows The Pushover, a Danish drama, which arrived on Channel 4 last week. Based on a popular book series, the synopsis for that one reads: “A North Zealand police inspector and a Copenhagen journalist follow separate leads towards chilling secrets when a notorious con artist is implicated in a murder.”
It’s an exciting time for crime-drama fans, as Channel 4 also confirmed today that its popular detective drama Patience – whose second season has been named “the channel’s most watched show so far this year across linear and streaming” – will officially be back for a third season.
Ella Maisy Purvis’s titular character will return, of course, for what the broadcaster describes as “another gripping” series of ten episodes.
