Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street’s Carl Webster drops a bombshell that stuns his family next week – bringing Kevin and Ronnie in on Debbie’s biggest secret. It’s clear that life for the Websters will never be the same again.

Put on the spot, Debbie is soon forced to confirm that Carl is actually her son – then all hell breaks loose.

The truth spills out after Ronnie comes dangerously close to rumbling Carl’s dangerous plot to burn down Debbie’s hotel.

Continuing with his scheme to set fire to Chariot Square, Carl enlists the services of a dodgy pal named Jez to size up the hotel’s fire exits and CCTV.

However, as Carl and Jez are discussing their dangerous plan, Ronnie smells a rat and goes so far as to photograph shady Jez and warn him off Carl.

After this, Ronnie issues Carl with a stern warning to forget whatever he’s planning.

However, Carl fires back at Ronnie by smugly informing him that Debbie will always have his back no matter what – because she’s his mum!

“Ronnie can’t believe what he’s hearing, so he grabs Kevin and the pair set off for HMP Weatherfield to see Debbie at the first opportunity,” explains our Corrie insider.

“After they demand answers, she’s left with little choice but to verify Carl’s bombshell. It’s a huge shock for Ronnie, never mind Kevin, who has grown up believing that Carl is his brother.”

So, how will the two men both react? Sue Devaney, who plays Debbie, recently shared some hope that everything will work out for the best…

“Ronnie’s had to take on a lot, hasn’t he? It’s a good job he’s chilled,” Sue said. “Debbie keeps just bringing up new problems and now it is: ‘By the way, I’ve got a son’.

“I think that Ronnie is really grounded, and because Debbie is the way she is, she believes that Ronnie is not going anywhere, through the thick of it all. She’s thinking, ‘I need to make sure Carl’s alright’. And in that, either Ronnie’s gonna be there or he’s not gonna be there. Chances are he is.”

Asked about Debbie working things out with Kevin following their recent tensions, Sue replied: “There’s always a strong bond there. Kevin’s not going anywhere. And I think it’s that forgiveness, isn’t it? It’s all about forgiveness.

“It’s tough for him, isn’t it? Because it’s not just the fact that his brother stole his wife, but that his brother now turns out to be his nephew. It’s a lot. It’s great soap storylines though!”

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
