Chad Michael Murray’s iconic noughties series One Tree Hill has found a new UK streaming home on Netflix. The angsty teen drama, which has been lauded by fans and critics alike, will arrive on the streamer next week.

The series, which ran from 2003 to 2012, was set in the fictional small town of Tree Hill in North Carolina, and starred Murray and James Lafferty as estranged half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott.

Centring on their tumultuous relationship and fierce rivalry both on and away from the basketball court, the series folds in themes of ambition, love, friendship and heartbreak across the brothers’ adolescence and early adulthood.

Created by Mark Schwahn, One Tree Hill ran for nine seasons, initially on The WB network before moving over to the CW network in 2006. Over the course of its nine-year run, 187 episodes were aired.

Across its run, the teen drama proved incredibly popular with viewers, with one user on IMDb rating it 10/10 as they called it “underrated”. Likewise, one fan on Rotten Tomatoes described the series as “addictive”.

Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush starred as Lucas’s love interests Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis, while Bethany Joy Lenz played his best friend and Nathan’s eventual girlfriend, Haley James Scott.

In August 2024, the once-rumoured sequel series took a huge step forward when Deadline reported that Burton and Bush would take the helm as executive producers for the spin-off show.

Several original cast members were said to be reprising their respective roles, while Becky Hartman Edwards would serve as lead writer and executive producer of the Warner Bros TV series.

The spin-off is said to be set 20 years after the main series, with the action focusing on Brooke and Peyton as they navigate parenthood, with their teenage children set to wrestle with love, insecurities and grief.

While informal conversations are thought to have been had with other original cast members, no one else has been confirmed, though it is believed that Murray has no plans to return.

The reboot welcomed Jensen and Danneel Ackles as executive producers through their Chaos Machine banner, while Emily Moss Wilson will also serve as a producer.

One Tree Hill is available to watch from Sunday 1 March on Netflix.
