Line of Duty fans have been given an exciting update for the upcoming seventh season. It was confirmed in November that the wildly-popular police procedural would be returning, after last hitting our screens in 2021.
Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar and Martin Compston are all set to reprise their respective roles, with the trio sharing some filming updates as fans eagerly await the highly-anticipated episodes.
In a reel shared to Instagram, the actors offered a first glimpse at the script, and with it previously being announced that filming is set to begin in the Spring, it’s safe to assume that they are together for read-throughs ahead of shooting.

“Season seven, we’re back. Here’s the script, want to have a look?” McClure said to the camera as she waved the document in the air. She then flicked the pages, but a cleverly placed emoji obscured the contents in case of eagle-eyed fans.
The caption on the post reads: “Mother of God! The Three Amigos are back together ❤️🎬🚔 The next instalment of Jed Mercurio’s hit crime thriller starts filming this spring. Watch Series 1–6 on iPlayer now.”
In the comments, fans were quick to share their excitement over the new episodes, with many begging for more seasons in the future as one wrote: “Please this is a dream. I’m so excited!”
“Finally some good news in my feed! Can’t wait❤️” wrote a second viewer, while a third echoed these sentiments as they commented: “Finally 🙌 greatest news of the year so far 🙌”
The six-part season will open as AC-12 has been disbanded and rebranded to the Inspectorate of Police Standards. Per an official synopsis, Steve Arnott (Compston), Kate Fleming (McClure) and Ted Hastings (Dunbar) are then assigned to a sensitive case.

It will follow Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, who is accused of abusing his position of trust to act as a sexual predator. But Gough’s case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat, one that is “still operating in the shadows”.
It was previously announced that Robert Carlyle would be joining the cast as Detective Constable Shaun Massie, a Specialist Rifle Officer (SRO) operating with the Tactical Operations Unit 7 (TO-7) to take down organised crime groups.
