Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set for another big schedule shake-up in a few weeks’ time – this time airing rare Sunday episodes. The two soaps are staples of weekday evenings, but have faced a few schedule tweaks recently for various reasons.

The shows will be getting a fairly chaotic schedule in two weeks’ time, beginning on Sunday, 29 March as Emmerdale airs at 7pm followed by Corrie half an hour later. This appears to be making up for lost episodes due to earlier schedule changes.

They will then air in their normal 8pm and 8.30pm slots on Monday, 30 March, while both will be off air on Tuesday, 31 March due to the England v Japan game at 7pm.

Wednesday, 1 April will then proceed as normal, though both Thursday, 2 April and Friday, 3 April will see Emmerdale move half an hour earlier to 7.30pm followed by Corrie at 8pm due to two-hour Vera repeats at 8.30pm.

It comes after both ITV shows underwent a major general schedule shift earlier in 2026 as part of a new “soap power hour”, each series airing for half an hour five days a week, losing 30 minutes and moving away from the previous six-episode patterns.

“The new commissioning pattern is viewer-led,” ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment Kevin Lygo said. “We already give more choice than ever to viewers on how they watch us through ITVX and we want to present their favourite soap to them in the most digestible way.

“In a world where there is so much competition for viewers’ time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows.”

He added that streaming-friendly 30-minute episodes “better provide the opportunity to meet viewer expectations for storyline pace, pay-off and resolution”.

“These changes are motivated by doing what we believe is best for the continuing success of these important programmes in the long term,” he added.
