CONVERGE ICT Solutions Inc. on Thursday said its prepaid product Surf2Sawa (S2S) had surpassed 500,000 active subscribers since its 2022 launch.

“It’s been over two years since Converge introduced the prepaid model, and we are pleased that this resonated deeply with consumers, as shown by the numbers,” JP Aguilar, officer in charge and head of consumer and SME, said in a statement.

“We see competitors have followed our example and introduced their own prepaid offerings,” he added, noting that it was a “win for wider broadband access.”

Launched in 2022, Surf2Sawa is said to be designed to cater the connectivity needs of the mass market, known to be more budget-sensitive and likely unable to avail of entry-level postpaid fiber internet plans.

“S2S fills in that gap, and we’re glad to see that more customers are embracing this. The growth runway for us is still wide as we continue to improve awareness and accessibility of our brand,” Vice President Conrado Pascual said.

Converge claimed that demand was particularly strong in major urban centers in the National Capital Region, as well as in South and Central Luzon.

Residential subscribers can avail of fiber internet for as low as P4.00 a day, with various promos good for three, seven, 15 or 30 days at varying prices.

Pascual said that customers’ positive reception to Surf2Sawa could be attributed to an innovative approach to marketing where fiesta-style events are held in select communities to familiarize residents about the offering.

Converge saw its net income grow 12.4 percent to P5.95 billion in the first half from P5.29 billion a year earlier as revenues climbed 11.6 percent to P21.78 billion from P19.52 billion.

The company’s shares on Thursday dropped P1.00, or 0.20 percent, to P499 apiece.
