A major shakeup is unfolding in the New Braunfels fitness scene. Gold’s Gym is expected to close its Hill Country location with Crunch Fitness poised to take over the space.

According to a team member associated with Gold’s Gym, the closure will disrupt memberships for hundreds of local gymgoers who rely on the facility off North Business I-35. While an official closure date has not been publicly announced, the employee indicated that a lease agreement tied to Crunch Fitness is moving forward, signaling a transition is already underway behind the scenes.

The gym located off the I-35 corridor in the Marketplace shopping plaza has long served as one of the primary fitness hubs in New Braunfels. Once closed, Gold’s Gym fans will have to travel to San Marcos or San Antonio for the closest alternatives.

The shift comes as Crunch Fitness submitted plans with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to renovate a roughly 42,000-square-foot space at the same address, a project valued at $1.5 million and slated to wrap by the end of this year. At the time, it was unclear how the new gym would fit into the existing space, but the latest development suggests a full replacement.

Crunch has built its brand around low-cost memberships paired with full-service amenities, positioning itself as a more affordable option in an increasingly competitive fitness market. That strategy could appeal to price-conscious consumers, but the transition may leave current Gold’s Gym members scrambling to decide whether to transfer, cancel or commute to a nearby Gold’s Gym.

For now, members are left in limbo as one of the city’s most recognizable gyms prepares to exit, and a new player gets ready to move in.
