Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale star Bradley Johnson has addressed the state of play in the relationship between Vinny and Gabby Dingle, with two secrets having the potential to damage their bond for good.
The pair tied the knot earlier this month, though it wasn’t without drama as Gabby began to fear the worst after Vinny took an eternity to arrive at the ceremony. Unbeknownst to her, he had been at the police station giving evidence.

This came after he was brutally attacked by the villainous Mike, who had threatened to expose Vinny’s own doubts about his sexuality. Instead of being downtrodden, Vinny resolved to take down Mike for good.
Vinny isn’t the only one harbouring a secret, however, with Gabby admitting to Laurel and Bernice that she had been unfaithful to her husband prior to their wedding. Vinny is yet to discover this fact, though he hasn’t told Gabby about his date in court.

Speaking ahead of a dramatic week on the ITV soap, Johnson explained that his character would be devastated to discover Gabby’s infidelity, saying: “I think, in an ideal world, I would love to see Vinny just be honest and tell Gabby the truth.”
“Then if Gabby confides in Vinny and tells him the truth, they can work through it,” continued the actor, who has played Vinny since 2019. “They’ve both done things they shouldn’t have done.
“Being in that sort of relationship, they should have confided in each other and had that open conversation, rather than going behind each other’s backs and doing things they probably shouldn’t have done.”

While his character could potentially go through an ever tougher period, Johnson shared his excitement at having an important storyline, saying: “There’s different layers to Vinny – every time something bad happens to him, he gets bigger and stronger.
“From the start of this storyline to where it is now, I feel like he’s come a long way, and I think it’s a really important story to tell. There’s so many people in the real world who are struggling with their sexuality, and we need to give the message that it’s okay to talk.
“We need to talk to our loved ones, there are people out there, and it’s telling them to do the right thing, really. As an actor, it’s been brilliant and the emotional rollercoaster of him being nervous, upset [and] anxious, it’s been great to play.”

Despite the drama, Johnson explained that he had a special bond with on-screen wife Rosie Bentham, saying: “[She’s] honestly so mint! We get along great at work, and she’s honestly a joy to be around.
“We have such a laugh and it’s been really hard playing these emotional scenes because we get along so well off screen. It’s like working with one of your best friends, it’s a joy to do nine scenes a day with her. It’s been brilliant.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
