After more than two decades at the helm, Jacquline Trim is stepping down as president of the Saint Lucia Bodybuilding and Body Fitness Association (SLBBFF), but not before laying out her vision for the sport’s future.
Speaking after Saint Lucia’s 17-member team secured second place at the Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding Championship, Trim said the real win lies in building a pipeline of young athletes.
“The purpose for which we have this convention here is to help St. Lucians to understand bodybuilding and to reignite the passion for bodybuilding on the island,” she said, adding that the SLBBFF is now focused on early engagement.
“We have a children’s fitness challenge. So our goal going forward is to encourage our young people from the ages of 5 to participate in those competitions.”
Trim confirmed she would not be contesting the presidency again, but will remain on the executive to support recruitment and development.
“I’ve been president for about 20-something years… I think I need to allow somebody else to take that spot to another level,” she said. “We have a lot of potential in our athletes, and we just need to encourage them to get out there.”
Team Barbados topped the overall standings with ten gold medals, nine silver and four bronze, while Saint Lucia’s second-place finish underscored the island’s growing depth in the sport.
