Emmerdale spoilers follow.

The latest instalment of Emmerdale saw Vinny Dingle lose his temper at Gabby as the pressure of Graham Connolly’s case mounted. Tonight’s episode kicked off with an exciting moment for the newlyweds. They told Vinny’s mum Mandy and Kim Tate that Vinny intended to adopt Gabby’s son, Thomas, whom she’d had with Kim’s son, Jamie.

As they were sprucing up their place to impress Kim, Kammy Hadiq paid a visit to his pal after their latest disagreement.

Kammy had been pushing Vinny to take the stand against Graham, the man who had taken advantage of his doubts about his sexuality to extort money from him.

When Graham’s defence wanted to call Gabby to testify, however, Vinny backed out and made an excuse with his wife as to what the trial was really about.

In new scenes, Kammy apologised for being “out of line”.

“You’ve gotta do what you wanna do, bro. It’s out of my business,” Kammy told Vinny, adding that he wouldn’t be the last man to question his sexuality.

“Pretty common now,” Kammy encouraged him, but Vinny insisted that Gabby would “freak” if she knew due to her past experience with ex-fiancé, Nicky Miligan.

“We just need to forget about it all, yeah?” Vinny told Kammy.

Later on, the couple suffered a setback when Kim reacted in the most predictable way to the news of Thomas’s adoption. “Over my dead body,” she said, adding that Thomas meant everything to her as her “only biological grandson”.

Gabby insisted that Vinny adopting her son wouldn’t change anything for Kim. Mandy doubled down, saying that Vinny wasn’t biologically her son, but he was “in every other way”.

“I wanna be the father to Thomas that I never had,” Vinny finally told Kim, promising her he would be “the bestest dad ever” to her grandson.

Kim cracked at last, giving the couple her blessing.

Gabby and Vinny’s happiness was clouded when he suddenly remembered about the court case. When she said she’d arranged a photoshoot for the three of them the following day, Vinny snapped at her, saying he was busy and had to go.

Meanwhile, Graham, once again posing as Mike, had snuck its way into Mandy’s salon. An unaware Mandy was chatting away about her son Vinny had married into a wealthy family and would adopt Kim Tate’s grandson. And the villain planned his next blackmailing move.

Vinny was shocked to see Graham at his mum’s salon, but he kept quiet. While Mandy was on the phone, Graham told Vinny they needed to talk as he wanted “compensation”.

Preoccupied with keeping Gabby in the dark, Vinny offered Graham an unexpected deal. He would testify, messing with his story so that the charges against Graham would be dropped and he would walk free.

“Done,” Graham agreed.

After yelling at Gabby once again, accusing her of “doing [his] head in”, Vinny met up with Kammy and revealed his real plan.

Now that Graham had agreed to keep Gabby out of the case, Vinny would take the stand and tell the truth.

In the final scenes, Gabby, who had been keeping a secret of her own, continued being worried about Vinny.

She looked up the charges against Graham, realising he’d be on trial for ABH and extortion and that Vinny had been lying to her.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
