Kaitlin Olson returns for more episodes of cosy crime High Potential after its midseason twist, as showrunner Todd Harthan promises a “surprising” reprise.

Led by the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, the Disney+/Hulu series is a remake of the French and Belgian television series HPI. Much like the original, the US version follows a woman with a high IQ who goes from cleaner to police consultant overnight.

Olson stars as protagonist Morgan Gillory in the remake, with the show also featuring Scrubs’ Judy Reyes and Batwoman’s Javicia Leslie, as well as Daniel Sunjata and Deniz Akdeniz.

As season 2 just aired its midseason finale, titled ‘The One That Got Away’, it seems Morgan may be one step closer to finding out what happened to her ex, and father of her eldest daughter, Roman.

Meanwhile, the gifted consultant is also faced with the possibility of being wrong in a new art theft case.

The midseason finale ends with Morgan trapped in a hotel room with art consultant and potential thief and murderer Rhys Eastman (Aiden Turner), but the new episode, set to air on 6 January, won’t pick up just there and then.

“We came up with this clever little device that kicks off the episode in a way that I think is surprising and interesting,” Harthan told TVLine.

matthew lamb as elliot radovic, amirah johnson as ava gillory, judy reyes as selena soto, daniel sunjata as adam karadec, kaitlin olson as morgan gillory, javicia leslie as daphne forrester, deniz akdeniz as lev oz ozdill, and steve howey as nick wagner, high potential season 2

“It’s not like she’s in the hotel room wondering what she’s going to do now. It gives us some interesting backfill about what happened in that hotel room in the time between getting that call and getting to a crime scene”.

Harthan teased a “really fun, juicy” scene in which Morgan’s police partner Karadec (Sunjata) quizzes her about what went down.

“[He] has some questions for her, so we start with a really fun, juicy scene at the top of the next one.”

High Potential season 2 continues on 6 January on Disney+ and Hulu. Season 1 and the first half of season 2 are streaming on the same platforms.
