Maxton Hall – The World Between Us, the “spicy” drama that has a sense of “soothing familiarity”, is trending in the UK again following its return. With its future already confirmed, here’s what you need to know about Prime Video‘s latest hit.
The German series, which is based on Mona Kasten’s collection of novels, follows Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten), a scholarship student at the prestigious titular school who harbours dreams of attending Oxford University.
She soon begins a romance with James Beaufort (Damian Hardung), the brother of her best friend Lydia (Sonja Weißer). As Ruby ingratiates herself with a new family, will she and James get their happily-ever-after?

After premiering in 2024, the series returned with its second season on Friday (7 November), and it has proved to be a hit with viewers as it currently tops the streamer’s overall chart for both TV and film (via FlixPatrol).
The first season was based on Kasten’s 2018 novel Save Me, with the follow-up adapting Save You. A third season, which has already been greenlit by Prime Video, will presumably be based on third novel Save Us.

“After a painful betrayal, Ruby is left facing the ruins of her relationship with James,” reads the synopsis for the second season (via Forbes), which consists of six instalments like its predecessor.
“She only wants one thing: her old life back, when she was invisible at Maxton Hall. While she tries to suppress her feelings, the remorseful James does everything he can to win her heart back – whatever the cost.”
The second season doesn’t currently have a score on Rotten Tomatoes, but the three listed reviews are all positive, with the Hindustan Times calling it “seductive” and “overpowering” in its depiction of young adult romance.
“Maxton Hall – The World Between Us enters its second season with a bang, having its main characters immediately go off the rails in the first episode. We can’t wait to see where the action takes us from here,” opined Decider.

The first season has an approval rating of 70% from 10 reviews, with Entertainment Weekly writing: “Maxton Hall – The World Between Us follows the YA enemies-to-lovers blueprint to the letter, and that soothing familiarity is its greatest strength.”
“It’s technically a YA series, but it’s European, so it’s more daring and risqué than most American adult dramas. And it’s really good: sweet, addictive, and brimming with feeling,” wrote Pajiba, while Lola Lambchops described it as “spicy”.
