The Escape Artist, the forgotten BBC crime drama starring David Tennant, is coming to Netflix very soon.

The limited series, which is created and written by David Wolstencroft, sees the actor portray Will Burton, a barrister who develops a reputation for getting criminals out of tight corners during trials.

Will’s run of acquittals continues as he successfully defends Liam Foyle (Toby Kebbell), though it proves to be a cursed charm as the criminal begins to stalk his wife, Kate (Ashley Jensen), and son, Jamie (Gus Barry).

“You might love or hate this piece, however one thing is absolutely sure: David Tennant has given us some brilliant acting in this show, and even if it is for that only it deserves 10/10,” wrote one user.

“This is one of the finest televised dramas I have ever seen,” added another fan as they called the series “compelling”, while another opined: “Suspenseful, dark and frankly more than a bit creepy in places. David Tennant is excellent in this.”

“Definitely an implausible storyline and utterly far-fetched, but then many compelling dramas have peculiar twists… The principal cast are talented and accomplished, and the acting is the strongest element,” wrote one other viewer.

The series, which is being co-written by Adolescence’s Jack Thorne, tells the true story of the phone hacking scandal at News International, with Tennant set to portray investigative journalist Nick Davies.
