As the New Year spurs a surge in new gym-goers at Crunch Fitness in Walker, seasoned members and staff emphasize setting realistic fitness goals.
WALKER, Mich. — We’ve all been there.
Wanting to use the New Year as a way to renew fitness goals after indulging during the holiday season.
Kiki Bufton, assistant general manager of the Crunch Fitness in Walker, said that it’s been seeing an influx of new people in the last few weeks.
“We’ve had a lot of people that have just been either in town and are coming as guests, or people that are maybe newer to their fitness journey or looking at joining a new gym,” said Bufton.
Fitness journeys that members like Sean Hemry are very familiar with.
He said that he’s lost more than 150 pounds on his own fitness journey and advises fitness newcomers to have achievable goals.
“So many people will set like 15, 20, goals, and then they get so overwhelmed that they can’t really achieve anything,” Hemry said. “So, if you set like three, you know, something you can see in three months, something you can see in six months, and you can see at the end of the year, it will drastically improve your chances of being successful.”
However, Bufton said that it’s about much more than the cardio and physical training.
She said that Crunch takes a holistic approach when it comes to health.
“We have our human touch massage chairs, which are like a deep tissue massage. Then we have our hydro massage beds, which are our water pressure. This room is special because everything in here is powered behind the front desk.”
Bufton said that while everyone goes at their own pace when it comes to fitness, she advises everyone to get at least some movement in throughout the day.
