EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa has spoken about some of the mysteries that were introduced in the New Year’s Day flashforward episode, which jumped ahead one year in time and raised numerous questions.
Viewers saw Max Branning on the morning on his wedding day, although the bride wasn’t revealed. There were hints that he really came through for the Beales in a difficult time and had a major falling out with Jack – who has a new baby he’s looking after – while Lauren is hiding someone and Oscar is dating a mystery person.
If that wasn’t enough, there’s also the mystery of the woman Max woke up in bed with on his wedding day, a boarded-up Queen Vic, Nicola Mitchell’s injury, and Max’s supposed involvement in a plan to kill someone.
It was a lot for one episode, and it looks like the soap’s boss Ben Wadey and the story team are keeping their cards close to their chests, to the point where Lauren actor Jacqueline doesn’t even know.
In an Instagram Story uploaded after the episode aired, Jacqueline thanked for fans for their support and asked: “I’m interested to know your theories and guesses, I know NOTHING!”

She also asked fans to make their own predictions about what might be going down, stating: “It’s fun to see your guesses.”
Thankfully we won’t have to wait all that long to start getting some of the answers to the “gazillion” questions the episodes had us asking, as soap boss Ben laid out a timeline.
“You don’t have to wait an entire year to get all the answers,” he said.

“You’ll be getting answers from almost the episode after, and then through every month we’ll be giving you little bits. But also, we twist it – with a lot in that episode, things are not as they seem.
“So things that you will assume are going on there, when you watch them in a year’s time, will actually have quite a different light on them.”
EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
