Strongman Pa O’Dwyer made an incredible impact on the fitness world and Strongman. The community has suffered a tragic loss as O’Dwyer has passed away at 40 years old.

The news was confirmed by Giants Live in a heartfelt statement. O’Dwyer passed away on Saturday with the cause of death not being shared at this point.

“Pa brought strength, laughter and warmth wherever he went. He genuinely was one of life’s biggest characters and everyone who ever met him would have a story to tell I’m sure.”

O’Dwyer began training at a high level in his early 20s, which led to an appearance in a bodybuilding competition. This is where he got his start in the fitness world and it led to the gym, where he displayed super-human strength. At 27 years old, O’Dwyer made the successful transition into powerlifting and quickly made his debut. He began competing internationally and won many competitions.

O’Dwyer became a five-time winner of the Ireland’s Strongest Man competition. He also won U.K.’s Strongest Man in 2018 while competing twice during the Europe’s Strongest Man competition. O’Dwyer has also competed on the biggest stage in the sport, appearing in the World’s Strongest Man three times (2020, 2023, 2024).

The Strongman community has felt the loss of Pa O’Dwyer and many have taken to social media to share different statements about the athlete, who built personal relationships with many during his career.

O’Dwyer was not only known for his strength in the gym. He was well-known in the fitness world and made a positive impact on everyone he met. This includes Eddie Hall, who took to Instagram.

“Absolutely Devastated to hear about the passing of Pa O’Dwyer. Pa brought strength, laughter and warmth wherever he went. He genuinely was one of life’s biggest characters and everyone who ever met him would have a story to tell I’m sure.”

Along with Hall, many other Strongman greats shared messages including Tom Stoltman, Martins Licis, and Rauno Heinla. Evan Singleton pointed out the feeling that O’Dwyer brought to competitions, which was that of laughter and humor.

“Never a serious moment with him. He was that guy that was just always smiling, always laughing; he wasn’t afraid to make himself look like a fool in order to make people laugh. He was one of the very few genuinely good people in the world.”

Pa O’Dwyer was one of the strongest competitors in the world who enjoyed a successful career including multiple victories. His impact on others is what he will be remembered for most, as he built relationships with fellow strongmen who have shared different stories and memories about O’Dwyer.
