Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has confirmed a huge story for Sam Blakeman as he uncovers Will Driscoll’s grooming at the hands of his coach Megan Walsh. But how will the family react when they learn about Megan’s manipulation?

Viewers discovered Will and Megan’s secret relationship shortly after the Driscolls arrived in Weatherfield. When Will asked to move back to Hull to continue his sports training, his grandmother Maggie paid Megan to travel to Manchester instead – not realising the true nature of their relationship.

Since then, Megan has been continuing to groom Will, while publicly dating Daniel Osbourne. But with Maggie already aware of Will’s jealousy towards Daniel, it won’t be long before Megan’s horrific actions are revealed.

Speaking about the Driscolls, Corrie producer Kate Brooks hinted at a lot of drama for the newcomers – with Will and Megan’s story at the forefront.

“They’re such a fantastic family and such a great dynamic in that pub. I just adore them. But yes, there is loads to come for this family, we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg,” she said.

“Obviously, the ongoing story with Will and Megan is huge for them. We also know what Maggie is capable of now, especially when it comes to protecting her lads. She’s got this fierce loyalty and need to protect her kids and grandkids at all costs. So, we know that when eventually this awful secret is exposed, that it’s not going to go down well with Maggie.”

Brooks explained how Eva’s step-nephew Sam will become involved in the storyline, and the effect it will have on his mental health as he struggles to keep the huge secret. She teased an “explosive” showdown as Eva Price and Leanne and Toyah Battersby eventually realise their boys have been manipulated.

“Sam is obviously semi-related to the pub family, and he potentially gets wind that something’s amiss. We will see the lengths that Megan will go to to manipulate Sam and to keep him quiet, and it will be massively detrimental to Sam’s wellbeing.”

She added: “It’s a real journey for us to take [Will’s dad] Ben on as well, as they all struggle to navigate this. It’s a situation none of them thought they’d ever be in, and the fact that they are really tests them as a family unit.”

“But again, they’re a really strong family unit, and they love each other, and at the heart of it is that love. It’s just how they manage to overcome these massive hurdles, and how they protect their children, how they protect Will, and what lengths they’re willing to go to. But Maggie’s a fiery one, so I’d keep in mind Maggie.”

Coronation Street has worked on Will and Megan’s grooming storyline with support from Barnardo’s. Support and information is available via the charity’s website.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
