Lisa Dwan’s Irish detective drama Blackshore is airing on TV tonight. The “gripping” series follows DS Fia Lucey (Dwan), who is forced to return to her hometown following a string of misconduct allegations.
While regrouping and trying to get her life back on track, Fia begins to investigate a local missing persons case. But the detective is soon plagued by dark memories of a life that she was desperate to leave behind, causing her distress.
“She finds herself right back in the centre of a community who have never forgotten her family’s tragic past. A tight-knit community that is steeped in secrets and lies,” reads the synopsis (via BBC).
The six-part series will begin on BBC Four tonight at 9pm, with the second episode airing immediately after at 9.55pm. The remaining instalments will air weekly, while all episodes will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer following their broadcast.
Blackshore debuted in Ireland on RTÉ back in February 2024 and features a predominantly Irish cast, with Rory Keegan, Stanley Townsend, Clara Fitzgerald, Orla Charlton, Dara Devaney and Barry McGovern appearing in supporting roles.

In Digital Spy’s three-star review, we praised the detective drama for its “intriguing” depiction of “regret, loss and penance”, adding: “The drama starts out strong owing to Fia’s quite literal punchy opening, which sets up her reasoning for returning home.”
“When there are pockets of action – be it combat or just compelling, meaty plot points – they really work and that’s largely down to the cast, their chemistry and their commitment to the story,” we continued.
Blackshore was also warmly received by viewers on IMDb, where it currently has a solid average user rating of 6.8 out of 10 from 2700 reviews. In one review, one user lauded the “amazing cinematography, editing and music”.

“Gripping from beginning to end, bingeworthy with plenty of cliffhangers and a brilliant lead! Rough around the edges with a past as any proper Detective or DI and then some, they couldn’t have found a better actress for this character,” opined another user.
A third viewer was also full of praise, writing: “This is an enjoyable series that’s definitely worth watching. Lisa Dwan delivers a great performance and looks fantastic in the show, and the general cast are very good too.”
Blackshore airs tonight on BBC Four and streams on BBC iPlayer.
