Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Vinta Morgan has confirmed his character Ronnie Bailey’s future amid the heartbreaking Debbie Webster plot. The latter is in the middle of a dementia storyline, while her troubles have also seen her take the fall for son Carl following the Corriedale crash, and is now in prison.

Husband Ronnie has seen through Carl, and next week he grows even more suspicious of him after Debbie instructs Ronnie to transfer £2,000 to her son.

Unable to convince her otherwise, he turns to brother Ed for advice – but will they be able to protect Debbie’s money?

Opening up Ronnie’s protective instincts, Vinta confirmed that his character will be in it for the long haul and wants to shield her from unnecessary stress.

“He wants to protect Debbie,” the actor told The Mirror. “He wants to slow down the illness and prevent her from any stress that could speed up her decline. He will continue to be a real rock for her.

“I’m not sure he’s going to be able to deal with it all and it remains to be seen how it changes him – he’s only human – but one thing for sure is that he won’t duck out of the fight. He will be there.”

He added: “I was a jobbing actor for a long time, forever waiting for that bus to come that’s going to open the door and say welcome aboard, this bus is for you. Now I’m on that bus it’s a wonderful privilege; I’m very grateful.”

Vinta joined Corrie as Ronnie back in 2021, with the character and Debbie tying the knot earlier this year.

Meanwhile, it appears that Carl may be in some danger, with a flashforward episode earlier this week revealing he could be one of five characters set to be killed off on 23 April.

“Carl burnt all his bridges when he let Debbie take the blame for the Corriedale accident which killed Billy Mayhew,” Corrie has teased.

“Since finding out Debbie is actually his mum and not his sister, he has pressed the self-destruct button and as he continues to goad both family and neighbours, there is more than one person who would be glad to see the back of Carl.”

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
