Coronation Street star Jodie Prenger has addressed her future on the soap, confirming another year of Glenda Shuttleworth. It turns out the popular barmaid will be gracing our screens until at least 2027.
“I’ve just signed a new contract, so I’m going to be on Corrie for another year. I always get nervous about whether or not they’ll want me to stay, so I was thrilled when I got the offer,” Prenger told The Daily Star.
“I knew straightaway I was going to sign. I love being on the show so I’m thrilled to be staying for another year.”
The actor arrived on the cobbles in 2022, playing the flamboyant sister of local undertaker George Shuttleworth. Glenda quickly charmed viewers and the residents of Weatherfield with her bubbly personality and unwavering loyalty to her loved ones.
Despite playing Glenda for almost four years, Prenger shared that she still has moments of disbelief when working on the iconic soap.

“We were filming the other day in the undertakers and I still get that. Two cameras swished around and I suddenly thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m on Coronation Street’. It’s lovely,” she recalled.
“When I was watching Corriedale, I beamed with pride. It’s easy to take for granted how good it is. As I sat there, I was like, ‘Wow, I’m a part of that.'”
She added: “The thing with Coronation Street is the show is part of people’s families. It has gone back generations. My nan was a massive fan. To carry that legacy on is something quite exceptional. Corrie will always have that joy.”

As a barmaid, Glenda interacts with a lot of the street as they air their grievances in The Rovers. However, most of her storylines have been linked to her brother George.
In recent episodes George was accused of grooming an elderly customer, after being left a substantial amount of money in her will. The customer’s daughter Annie has been threatening George with legal action and berating him in front of prospective clients.
Next week, Annie continues to ruin George’s reputation by leaving negative feedback online. Protective Glenda tries to help the business by writing her own five-star reviews, but will her actions have the desired result?
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX and YouTube.
