A newly released image of the hotly-anticipated reboot of Malcolm in the Middle has suggested the new series will keep in line with a beloved tradition from the original show.
Set for an April release, the reboot, titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, reunites the characters from the 2000s comedy, nearly two decades after it wrapped in 2007.
A new image published by Screen Rant revealed the reboot is treating fans to the holiday special they never got to see. Unlike the first six seasons, the seventh and final chapter of the OG series didn’t feature a Christmas special, leaving fans who longed for one more look at the family’s bizarre festive shenanigans disappointed.
Now, it seems the upcoming series is set to fix that by airing its very own Christmas episode. In the new image, Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), his brothers Reece (Justin Berfield), Francis (Christopher Masterson) and Dewey (Caleb Ellsworth-Clark), as well as Francis’s wife Piama (Emy Coligado), are all sitting on a sofa in front of a Christmas tree.
The gang is opening presents as they appear to be shocked by something Dewey has just said, making this the first festive episode in 22 years for the show.

First announced in 2024, the four-episode revival will see Malcolm being summoned back for a family reunion by his parents, Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), who are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.
Malcolm’s reunion with his parents and siblings throws a spanner in his plan to enforce firm boundaries between his family and his daughter, Leah (Keeley Karsten) and girlfriend, Tristan (Kiana Madeira).

Most of the original cast — except for original Dewey star Erik Per Sullivan, replaced by Ellsworth-Clark — has returned for the revival, which finished filming in May last year.
Alongside Karsten and Madeira, new additions to the ensemble are Anthony Timpano as Jamie and Vaughan Murrae as new sibling Kelly, who was teased in the original finale when Lois discovered she was pregnant again.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair airs on 10 April on Disney+ and Hulu.
