Hollyoaks star Jessica Fox has called for the return of fan favourite character Justin Burton. Justin, who was played by Chris Fountain, exited the soap back in 2009 before being killed off-screen in 2023.

Justin’s death came as a huge disappointment for viewers, who were still holding out hope for his comeback. But according to Fox, who plays Nancy Osborne, those hopes haven’t yet been dashed as she believes he isn’t really dead.

“I think there is unfinished history with Justin Burton,” she told The Mirror. “I don’t buy it, we didn’t see a body and how many times have we killed Clare [Devine] now? Dead doesn’t mean what it used to in soap land.”

Prior to his departure, Justin fathered a son called Charlie with his teacher Becca Dean. But when Becca broke up with him, he lied about how old he was during their affair, leading to her arrest.

Becca later died after being attacked in prison, and her sister Nancy helped bring up the baby. Years later, Charlie tried to track Justin down and discovered he had been killed in a car accident.

“I still feel there is unfinished business with Justin and Charlie and Nancy and that whole group. I will say that one forever,” added Fox.

The star also addressed what’s ahead for her character, teasing an “explosive storyline” that will “rock the Osbornes massively”.

“While Nancy and Darren are dealing with their best friends Tony and Diane [Hutchinson], and Diane’s cancer news, they are also gonna have troubles of their own. Life never runs smoothly, does it?” she shared.

“And let’s say Jack Osborne has got a lot to deal with coming up quite soon. He’s got some difficult choices to make.”

She added that Nancy and Darren will be playing an important role in supporting the Hutchinsons as they come to terms with Diane’s heartbreaking diagnosis.

“I think they just wanna be there for them and Nancy is also Head Teacher at the school all the kids are at. So she’s got that responsibility there, so she wants to make sure the kids know they have got someone to talk to and they just wanna be there for their friends.”

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
