“Bernie tries to help Asha, but instead makes things worse,” our Corrie spy explains. “It leaves Asha feeling unable to go back to work, and doubting if she’s cut out to be a paramedic. There are some big decisions to be made.”
When Bernie learns this week what Asha has been through, she decides to avenge her stepdaughter. Naomi, the nasty patient who inflicted a vicious verbal and physical attack on Asha, feels the wrath of Bernie’s anger when she publicly exposes her as a violent racist.

Before long, Naomi is threatening to sue Bernie for slander, and Asha feels pressured into withdrawing her statement against her abuser. Asha then starts hitting the bottle, much to pal Nina Lucas’s concern.
Asha goes to Weatherfield General and watches the paramedics at work, wondering if she can ever resume her duties – despite having told Dev she’s back on the job. Then a customer at the shop lets something slip to Dev…
“Sienna, Asha’s colleague, reveals Asha is still off work,” our source continues. “Dev confronts his daughter over lying to him, leading to a blazing row.”
Once she’s calmed down, Asha reassures her dad she’s okay, and insists that she did the right thing by dropping the complaint against Naomi. But she’s clearly hiding how traumatised she is – will Asha acknowledge how much she’s suffering?

“Asha is frustrated with Bernie,” Tanisha Gorey, who plays the troubled paramedic, recently told us. “Bernie just wanted to help, and what she does doesn’t help the situation whatsoever because Asha eventually does go down the right route in sorting the situation out, but what Bernie’s done cancels that out, so to say.
“So, it’s more Asha realising that she needs to listen to herself and what’s right. Bernie oversteps but oversteps with love.”
She added: “Bernie absolutely stands by what she’s done and said, and nobody can quite see what Bernie sees. Her heart’s in it, she’s doing it for all the right reasons, but ultimately, the outcome isn’t great for her and she does see the consequences of her actions. But it’s all done with love, so there’s got to be some forgiveness there.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
